Over the past months I have been getting emails from what looks like my website host. They say I’m out of hard drive space. The message suggests I need to click on their link to correct or report it. The first few times I got the message I thought it might be legitimate, but I played it safe and did nothing.
Last week I finally investigated the issue and opened the source of the email. It was from a foreign country and not from my website host. Next, I wanted to know the email source and it was from a babycoollife.com domain which is not my website host. Now I know it’s fake. After reading it again, there is a misspelling in the body of the email.
Here is part of the email body:
“The domain “shanegrantham.com” has reached their disk quota. The account currently uses 98.45% of its disk capacity.
You should follow the link *bellow* to auto extend your disk capacity for free as soon as possible in order to prevent the loss of any files and future emails. Use the Disk Capacity tool at……”
Be cautious of emails you receive if they want you to click on a link or call a phone number. Another reason for caution is if they use fear or coercion to influence your decision. It might be real or it might be fake also called a phishing attempt.
