I was reading a Unix book last week and discovered an option within the top command in Linux. Top is run from the command line and shows all processes in real time. A process is a running program. Top allows you to kill a process with a few key strokes. It won’t kill something absolutely with a -9 but uses a -15 kill code. I did discover you can kill with a -9 signal if you type it in alter. Top requires a PID (process ID) and it’s easier than using the command line Kill command. To end a program just tap the “K” key and the process ID from the list. (3 to 5 numbers). I use it to end locked up programs which are slowing down the computer or won’t respond.
