Just remember or record your password.

I was asked to reset a user’s password on their Apple laptop this month and tried all kinds of things but never got it to cooperate. It never would boot into the recovery console, Safe mode, or the boot menu. The owner was asked twice over a week if they found any record of their password or apple ID. Both times the answer was no. I will give the laptop back to them locked like it was when they gave it to me. They said don’t worry about it and thanked me for trying. They could have saved me and themselves anguish if they had just written down the password and Apple ID someplace safe.
