I have an old Acer Travelmate laptop built around 2007 which I use in the kitchen. In it’s day it was the cat’s pajamas being a business laptop. Originally Windows XP was the operating system and since it’s unsafe on the internet, I put Linux on it. It worked fine for web browsing on the internet for a while and then it started having problems. The wifi failed and I tried removing the wireless network adapter from the underside but that didn’t work.

Other things were tried with out any luck and I retired the laptop. Weeks later, I found an old external USB Linksys network adapter I’ve owned since 2008. It was connected to the laptop’s USB port and I thought it might work. Linux automatically set it up without any help from me and it worked on the network soon after i connected it. Linux to the rescue- again!
