The other day I went to a computer client’s business and found an opened desktop computer. The owner couldn’t get the computer to respond and was attempting to remove the hard drive. Unfortunately, when they pulled off the data cable too much force was used and the plastic shroud broke off the hard drive. Now, no cable was going to stay connected and this made their problem much worse.

We discussed the issue and we decided that resurrecting the eight year-old computer was not smart and I’ll focus on hard drive data recovery.  Many data cables were tried and I got one to open the data on my computer. But I was using both hands to hold the cable tight and I couldn’t hold it like this and start the copy.  A way had to be found to get the cable to hold by itself.  After hours of adjusting the hard drive, cable and various heavy items on my desk, I got the cable to hold to the 5 data pins.  The data folders opened and I started the data copy.  I didn’t dare touch anything on my desk except my keyboard and mouse for fear of the data link disconnecting. It ran all day and I didn’t dare stop it until it was done.

The next morning most of the data was copied to my external drive safe and sound. I took it to my client and copied it to their computers.  They were very happy I got their data back.
