My latest computer is a 2018 Dell desktop. I got it last year for free and replaced the power supply and hard drive. Originally, it was a Microsoft Windows 11 computer and I installed Linux Mint on it. Another storage drive was added and it had a different version of Linux on it. Last week Windows 11 was installed on the second drive so I could get better with Microsoft’s latest OS.
At some point, the sound stopped on the speakers in Windows 11. Several things were tried like a set of headphones and the built-in Windows 11 troubleshooters. Unfortunately, nothing worked. It then dawned on me that I could test it in Linux to make sure the sound works before I start messing with the speakers. The computer was rebooted and Linux was started. As I thought, the sound worked so I know it’s a Windows 11 problem – not a hardware issue.
