I new computer client found me last month by reviewing my Google maps listing.  On my first visit a laptop and a desktop computer needed various things done.  When I was done with these tasks, the business owner asked if I worked on security systems.  I said not usually but what did they need.  There was an older security camera console and two computer monitors next to the computers I just serviced. In the back there were about eight wire connectors running the the cameras mounted around the building.

About 10 years ago I worked on the same type of system at a pallet company.  This one was connected to a VGA monitor which worked sometimes and others it would go blank.  I checked the cable connector and it was tight in the security console port.  I checked the monitor electrical cord and both ends were tight in the wall and the monitor.  While I was working on the computers, the security monitor was fine.  But just as I started working on the security system, it went blank.  The date of the monitor was checked and it was 2007!  My guess is the monitor is failing because it’s old.

On my next visit, I brought out a VGA monitor and connected it to the security system.  It’s now working again and they can monitor the areas around the building again.
