Last month a long-time client contacted me for a computer check-up.  When I started working on their computer I checked the operating system for available updates.  It was then I realized this is a Microsoft Windows 10 computer!  This OS is not getting security updates unless you signed up for it last year or started paying for it.  In this case neither of these were done.  It wouldn’t be safe to be using this computer on the internet for what my client was doing.

One option is updating to Windows 11 (if the computer hardware could handle it).  First a compatibility check needs to be run and I downloaded the hardware compatibity check from Microsoft.  This was done and 3 of 4 areas passed and the TPS check failed.  This is a test to see if a TPS security chip is on the motherboard.  I checked the BIOS and with internet assistance I found a settings for enabling TCIP through software emulation.  Now the Windows 11 test was done and now it passed!  Windows 11 could be installed on this computer and would be safer on-line than Windows 10.
