Some people think I’m odd to scan all my paper documents for personal and business.  I like having electronic copies of invoices, receipts, phone notes and others that I can look at in the future.  Once they are in PDF form, I can back them up to USB drive or the cloud so that I don’t lose them.  The paper is then filed in a my cabinet and thrown out after a few years or months.    Some paper documents like tax returns are never discarded.  And some I throw out right after the scan.

My scanner is a HP Office Jet Pro 8660 model which can’t print any longer.  It functions well as a scanner.  It allows me to scan over the wireless network to my file server. Later, I can print the document if needed.  Having documents in PDF form allows me to make duplicates for my work laptops in case I need one on-site at a client
