I received an e-mail message claiming to be from a major US bank today. Here’s an excerpt : “
Dear Customer: There is a problem updating your account statement of the following month please update your online banking information by clicking on the link below.” The Funny thing is that I have no account with this bank and never have had an account. It’s a phishing email sent to many people at once with the hopes that people who have accounts with the bank will be mislead and open it and follow the directions. I opened the email with a Linux Mint computer using the Mozilla Firefox browser for testing and research reasons. I wouldn’t do this on a Microsoft Windows computer. The link was clicked and Firefox displayed this warning message:

Phishing e-mails
If you ever get an email with a link or a file to download from a bank, it’s a fake(phishing) email and don’t open or process it. Banks will never send you e-mail messages about your account. It’s good to know Firefox stopped me from opening the dangerous e-mail message.
