This weekend a family member had scanned many family photos and they wanted me to have a copy of all the pictures. I brought over my external 750GB hard drive and connected it to my laptop first to clean it up. It wasn’t recognized by my apple laptop and I knew it worked last time I used it. I next tried it on a Microsoft Windows laptop and it wasn’t seen either.
Now, I’m not sure what’s going on since this is the first time it’s been a problem. A disk utility was run on both laptops and each time no external hard drive was recognized! I took the hard drive out of the cage and placed it in another cage. I connected it to a laptop and now it was seen. It’s narrowed down to the hard drive enclosure or the USB cable. Once a new cable was tried, my hard drive was seen in the original cage. And I threw out the USB cable so it doesn’t wind up in my inventory – I don’t want to go through this again!
