Last week I was at a business client assessing computers for operating system upgrades. One of the computers looked like it was a good candidate except for one thing – the hard drive was almost full. It was a 1TB drive and had 3GB available which 0.3%. It should be around 20%. I started a search for tmp files and found very few. A disk cleanup was ran and again nothing significant was found.
A large file search was performed and something interesting was discovered. I expected several files to be fond all about 100GB to 1GB. The serch found one file weighing in at 798GB! It was a Quickbooks temp file and I deleted it because it didn’t have any use and it was the disk hog.
Once it was gone, we had much more free space and the computer was faster
