Being in the computer/IT field, I tend to neglect my own computers. Take for example my computer file server. It was a Ubuntu server distribution which was having problems installing updates over the last few months. In December I started researching and found it was way out of date.  I was two iterations behind the current release.

So last week I spent backing up all the user data and then installing the latest release over the outdated version.  If I had paid attention, I could have upraded to the last release and not had to start over.  I got the latest release installed and then had to configure and set up Samba for sharing with my Microsoft Windows computers.

I hope I learned my lesson and will now check up updates on my server often, just I do on my Apple, Windows and Linux client computers.  do you keep an eye on your server updates?
