A cool thing happened to me a few weeks ago while I was at a local business. I was in my usual work shirt with my computer company logo proudly displayed. In the waiting room I was sitting and watching people come and go through the door. A man walked by and I said hello to him and he looked at me and my shirt. He paused a moment and said he needs my computer services. I asked if we had met before as I didn’t recognize him. “I used to attend your networking group in New Haven,” Now I remembered that he is a realtor in Fort Wayne and he came to the group toward the end of its existence a handful of times. For seven years I ran a business networking group in New Haven open to everyone.
He got my business card and called me later in the day. The next day I was in his office working on his smartphone and laptop on email issues. It definitely pays to wear my business shirts and jackets when I’m in public so I can be recognized as a computer professional. You never no who will see it. And networking every week helps too.
