I was working on a laptop with a hard drive problem this month.  My client wanted it repaired if possible so I first wanted to back up the data in case it had failed.  I removed the laptop cover and took out the hard drive.  It was placed in a drive reader and connected to one of my Raspberry PI computers.   The data could be seen by the computer and there was a lot of it – probably 350 GB.  The file copy was started to my client’s external drive and it was estimated to take days to complete!   My first instinct was to stop it and try another computer.  I decided to stay with this computer in case another comnputer couldn’t “see” the hard drive.  Or if the hard drive was failing and if it will never power up again.

The data recovery to four or five days and a 99% of the data got copied!  I was glad I ehdured the copy and my client was too.
