Last Friday one of my IT clients said he may need my help with his external hard drive. Tom said he couldn’t get it to respond on one of his computers and will try it on another one. I asked him what was on the drive and he wasn’t sure – that’s why he wanted to read it.
At the gym yesterday he said he tried it on another computer and it didn’t respond either. He thought he was going to have to bring it to me. As he was disconnecting the USB cable from the computer port, he touched something on the side. He never noticed it before and was curious what it was. He tried reading the small print and thought it said “ON/OFF”.
He plugged it back into the computer and it came to life. The power switch happened to get bumped to OFF, but now he knows it has one. Tom was kind of embarrased that he overlooked the power button on the drive case. The majority of external drives I’ve encountered didn’t have power switches so I know where Tom is coming from.
