This week I found an email from Gibson Research which is a technology company. They have a hard drive diagnostic and repair program I purchased about 20 years ago. I used it for testing hard drives and sometimes it would repair problems. The email message explained a new version was available which works on SSDs (solid state drives) and my license entitles me to download it. My license is a lifetime one and I still have versions of Spinrite on 3 1/2inch floppies I once used. I put this new version on a USB drive and used it on two of my computers so far.
It’s a complicated procedure which spinrite completely automates for us humans. It examines the drive and relocates failing sector data to healthy ones.
