Last month a new person contacted me about printing issues. They had two printers which aren’t printing to their Microsoft Windows 10 laptop.
The Canon inkjet printer printed at one time but isn’t now. It’s a wireless and USB printer and my client wants to go wireless due to the distance from the computer. I started to investigate the Canon’s front panel and it was poor in the programming area. I had major problems getting the password entered for the SSID. As time went on, it was apparent my client didn’t know the password! It was difficult to enter the password in Canon control panel with keyboard. I had to determine how to toggle upper and lower case and how to enter numbers. This was determined by trial and error and it was the asterisk key.
Instead of guessing the password on the printer, I got smart and tested the wifi password on my Windows 11 laptop and confirmed it had no ! in it. I entered the wifi password and the Canon connected to the wifi!
Now I had to get the laptop to see the Canon printer. Major problems were ahead – I couldn’t get the laptop to recognize the printer with the windows printer app. My laptop couldn’t see the Canon printer either so I tried another way. I went to Canons web site and downloaded a setup program. It was an executable and many attempts were made to install. I would get errors or no response when I tried to install but somehow it installed. I ran it and it found the canon printer and we could print now.
I checked back a few days later and my client could still print.
Trial and error problem solving.
