I take for granted that I make service calls to businesses and homes.  It’s something I’ve been doing since 1995 when I started at Needhams Business Machines. On-site service calls are easier on my clients because they don’t have to bring their equipment to me, Seeing the equipment in it’s natural setting is best since the problem may be with the network wiring or electrical system or something else – not the computer.   

Service calls usually go fine but one time I went to a 1st time client who ate something just before I arrived. When I got to their location they were experiencing an allergic reaction and got sick. I worked on their computer issue as they progressively got worse.  Their problems were solved and I tried to explain the results to them but they didn’t understand and got so bad they drove themselves to a hospital and I left. 

Fortunately, the majority of the calls end well and the computer problem is solved or the project is finished when I leave.
