Throughout the day I use my smartphone and tablets quite a bit. The camera gets used often for recording computer client pictures and at Catalyst Fitness where I work.  I take pictures of my exercises and equipment that needs repaired,  My Android smartphone fills up with all the video and pictures and I want to save them on my server.  Another reason is I don’t want to lose them if my phone dies or is stolen.

In the past i may have used cloud storage like Dropbox to move files off my devices.  I’ve grown suspicious of cloud storage and don’t use it any longer.  Now I use a USB cable  connected between my Linux computer and my smartphones and tablets.  My devices usually display an alert concerning the Linux computer and if i want to allow it.  Once I do, I’m able to move the pictures to my files server.  as a bonus, I can copy files from my files server to my smartphone if needed.
