My garage Linux desktop computer froze today when I was running a video off the internet.  This computer is pretty old and was probably given to me 10 years ago.  It was playing the video and all of a sudden, the screen froze and then lines started flashing on the monitor. I powered it off and on and got the BIOS diagnostics running.  The test started and got through the video, CPU, hard drive, fans and then the RAM (memory) began.  The computer froze during the RAM test which tells me it’s the problem.  Next I will remove the computer cover and re-seat the RAM sticks.   I believe there is 8 GB of RAM installed and I will test the RAM again with memtest which I have on many of my Linux boot DVDs.
